Abstract
The general belief that paddy cultivation is associated with the presence of women workers in agriculture, and, in particular, of women wage labourers, is largely based on the experience of east and south-east Asia. In India too there is a common perceptions that the regional concentration of women agricultural labourers Is based on the extent of paddy cultivation relative to other foodgrains.
