The objective of the study is to gather data about experiences and perceptions about sexual harassment in public spaces faced by women and girls in Rohtak.

Jagori and Safetipin undertook a rapid assessment on perceptions with regard to safety of women and girls in public spaces, and to identify perspectives and strategies that would guide further designing of interventions in three cities of Haryana – Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar and Rohtak.

Son preference, or the privileging of sons over daughters in accordance to a patriarchal system, isa growing phenomenon in India.

STRONG preference for sons over daughters exists in the Indian subcontinent, east Asia, north Africa and west Asia unlike in the western countries [Muthurayappa et al 1997, Lancet 1990, Okun 1996].

A number of recent studies [A] [D] have documented evidence to show that couples have a decided preference for a particular sex combination of children. For example, in many South Asian countries, including India, there is a strong preference for sons over daughters.

A fear of female sexuality and therefore, the need to control it have been felt in many societies and civilizations. This control has assumed different forms in different societies.
