Abstract

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) – the sole official source of data on numbers of crimes recorded in India – a total of 6,877 cases of human trafficking were registered in 2015.1 A total of 3490 cases of child trafficking were registered in the same year.2 According to the Global Slavery Index, India has 18 million slaves, which is the largest number of enslaved people in the world.
