Abstract
The theoretical framework of this paper takes into an account the relationship between women’s work in subsistence agriculture and the rural development strategies, both at the local and national levels. In these strategies women are perceived as basically peripheral to agriculture and rural development programmes, and their multiple roles and work in the rural are generally ignored in the androcentric environment of planning and policy making.
