Abstract
There are two major competing explanations for the relation between the household and the participation of women in the one explanation states that female labour force participation is condition by childbearing and rearing and by women’s responsibility for domestic work. This the rise in labour force participation rates in most Western industrialized countries during this century is traced to the decline in fertility and dramatic changes in the technology of housework.
