Abstract
This paper examines a number of questions that have a bearing on women’s employment in South Asia. The characteristic features of the region such as the predominantly rural, agrarian economy; patriarchal stronghold; influence of traditional gender based division of labour, the time spent on domestic and care responsibilities by women influence and affect the supply of women’s labour for economic activities.
