MGNREGA Ombudsman a Forlorn Scarecrow: Issues and Ways Forward in Karnataka

Abstract

The MGNREGA ombudsman has potential as a cheap, quick fix for accountability. It can improve program quality by plugging leaks and recommending improvements. Yet, its effectiveness in Karnataka remains unexplored. This study aims to assess its practice in grievance redressal, anti-corruption, transparency, and accountability. By analyzing records and available literature, the study sheds light on the Karnataka ombudsman's functioning. The findings will inform policy recommendations to boost the program's efficacy.
