A woman does not need her husband’s consent and signature to apply for a passport and insisting on the same is an instance of “male supremacism”, the Madras high court has said disposing of a petition filed by a woman who sought directions to authorities to issue her a fresh passport.

The Telangana high court has held that a Muslim wife has an absolute and unconditional right to dissolve her marriage through khula, and that the husband’s consent is not a prerequisite for its validity, in a significant ruling that underscores the autonomy of Muslim women within personal law.

New Delhi: Delhi govt has directed the labour department to make necessary changes in laws to allow women to work night shifts, but only with their consent.

In a strong push to enhance share of women in work force, the central government on Tuesday came out with a specific set of measures to provide teeth to laws which have delivered sub par results.
