Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women's University formerly known as Karnataka State Women's University, established in 2003 in the city of Vijayapura (Formerly Bijapur), is the only Women's University in Karnataka dedicated exclusively for women's education. It is recognized under 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act. It has been accredited 'B'grade by NAAC. The university is also a recipient of four Stars in KSURF rankings. One hundred and fourty eight women's colleges of Karnataka, are affiliated to this University and one P G center at Sindhanoor and also at Udutadi, one Extension center at Mandya are also offering various programmes.

SNDT Women’s University is the first Women’s university in India as well as in South-East Asia. The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) is an independent left oriented women's organisation committed to achieving democracy, equality and women's emancipation. members are from all strata in society, regardless of class, caste and community. It has an organizational presence in 23 states in India, with a current membership of more than 9 million. About two-thirds of the organsation's strength is derived from poor rural and urban women.
It was founded in 1981 as a national level mass organisation of women. However, several state units of the organisation came into existence in the crucible of the freedom struggle, each with a commendable record of anti-imperialist and pro-working class actions.
