Abstract
The present study aims to highlight the incidence and magnitude of child labour across the states and at the district-level, in both rural and urban areas of India. It aims to provide a systematic analysis of district-level information so that a micro-picture evolves for understanding the problem of child labour. The study also aims to identify the major hotspots of child labour in India; the main reasons for their existence and consequences thereof, and to create awareness about the problem. It focuses on girl children who are withdrawn from school and are contributing in household responsibilities through paid or unpaid work. Finally, the study tries to provide some policy recommendations for the elimination of child labour.
