Abstract
Health systems and health professionals play a crucial role in responding to survivors of sexual violence. They have therapeutic as well as forensic roles mandated by laws on sexual violence. Both the Protection of Chiildren from Sexual Offences Act 2012 (POCSO 2012) and the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2013 (CLA,2013) recognize the need for immediate care of survivors of Sexual violence beyond the medicolegal role of doctors. These changes were spurred by the massive campaign following the brutal gang rape of a young woman in Delhi, which stirred the nation in December 2012.
