The Employment of Women, Young Persons, and Children (Amendment) Act, No. 2 of 2021 (Sri Lanka)
Abstract
The Employment of Women, Young Persons, and Children (Amendment) Act, No. 2 of 2021, introduced by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, seeks to strengthen existing labor laws concerning the protection of women, minors, and young persons in the workforce. This amendment updates previous provisions to align with international labor standards and addresses contemporary challenges related to child labor, youth employment, and the rights of working women. Key changes include stricter regulations on child labor, prohibiting employment of children under a specified age and limiting the hours and types of work allowed for young persons. It also reinforces safeguards for women in the workforce, ensuring they are not subjected to discrimination or unfair treatment based on gender.
