Most of us acquire knowledge regarding sex and sexuality, through various formal and informal avenues. Much of the information acquired through infornal sources is unlikely to be accurate or correct. Sex being a topic, which is not openly discussed is shrouded in secrecy.

The Maharashtra government introduced a much-awaited and talked about bill in the state assembly: the Maharashtra Regulation of the Use of Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1988.

Demographic literature is replete with observations of an inverse relation between certain attributes of modernity and family size (Thompson 1929; Notestein 1945; Coale and Hoover 1958; Leiberman 1980, Srinivasan 1986).
