Abstract
Fertility behaviour in India, as anywhere else, is subject to socio-economic conditions as well as religious and cultural traditions. Not only is the fertility decision of couples influenced by 4 wide range of factors such as education, the position of women -and their participation in the work force, economic condition, urbanization, social security systems and so on, but it differs between husband and wife, and between urban and rural areas.
